Pineal are a three piece post Metal band hailing from London, England who make their HPGD debut with the impressive EP "Smiling Cult". Full of monolithic, apocalyptic and haunting riffs, the band draws influence from Stoner, Grunge, Doom and Progressive genres. Sinister, abrasive atmosphere is present, along with dark, dangerous vocals that channel the late Layne Staley. Odd time signatures are complimented by harmonized vocals, and the bleak atmosphere meshes with depressive ambience. Recorded by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studios and features sombre artwork by Anwot. Brilliant death/thrash with great socially-conscious (and easily understandable) lyrics, with a very versatile vocalist that jumps between heavy, black and death metal as solos and scything riffs leap out of the ongoing battery.
